Adam Chapweske came up with the SilverNote application to provide users with an efficient means of taking notes. With this application, you can take notes for work, for your day-to-day life, for research, and so on. You will get to choose where the notes will be saved: online/cloud, local folder, or encrypted file.

SilverNote needs Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 to work. To get the application up and running on any of these Windows editions, you will have to go through a simple setup process: download an executable, run it, then follow the instructions presented by a setup wizard.

The SilverNote interface is typical of an application of this kind. The text of the note takes up the main part of the interface. At the top there’s a traditional File Menu and shortcuts for various functions the application can perform (like underline, highlight, zoom, and so on). Down at the bottom there is a search bar that can prove to be quite useful.

When you launch SilverNote for the first time, it invites you to “Please select a location to store your notebooks” – you can choose between web/cloud, local folder, and encrypted file. The application will then ask you to give a name to your first notebook. When you’re done with these two simple steps, you can start enjoying all the functionality SilverNote has to offer: adjust the formatting, insert images, hyperlinks, files, or objects, sketch with the SmartPencil tool, password-protect your data, and so on.

There are two SilverNote editions to choose from: SilverNote Standard (free, notebook capacity is limited to 100 notes, no encryption) and SilverNote Premium (paid, unlimited notebook capacity).

With SilverNote, you can take notes, manage them efficiently, and store them safely.

Pros

The SilverNote setup process goes smoothly and rapidly. Store notes to the cloud, to a local folder, or to an encrypted file. SilverNote features a user friendly interface and powerful note taking functionality. There are two SilverNote editions to choose from.

Cons

SilverNote Standard does not have the encryption feature, it is limited to 100 notes.
